Learn how the increase in pixels can increase your viewing on HDTV's.
HDTV's are new kinds of television sets that give viewers better picture and sound quality. It does this by the way the pixels are activated within the set. You don't have to do any special programming of the television in order to watch high definition channels on your HDTV set. The high definition modules are able to pull the signals out if the airwaves and decode them to form a picture on your screen. The pixels are the tiny dots on the screen and by using combination of three primary colors - red, green and blue, you get a sharp image on the screen.
Standard definition TV, or what we have been used to, uses 480 lines of resolution and is interlaced. HD TV, on the other hand, uses 780 or 1080 lines of resolution. This difference alone will give you an idea of how much better high definition television is over the standard. There is very little difference between these two numbers, but the higher one allows you to get a sharp image of the dust from a runner's shoes or the tears rolling down a child's face.
HD TV is shown in widescreen, giving you the impression you are watching the TV in a movie theater. Although it may appear that the top and bottom of the screen are cut off in widescreen when you watch it on a normal TV, on a widescreen format TV you can see more of the action, especially if you are watching a baseball or hockey game. This is because many programs and movies are filmed originally in widescreen format and need to me changed to fit on a normal screen. This is why you often see the notice "this movie has been modified to fit your screen" at the start of a movie. On a widescreen TV no changes are needed so you get the full picture.
You are not limited to watching just high definition channels with this type of TV set. The manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic and others, have included a plug and play feature on the televisions they manufacture that enables you to switch from high definition to analog.
One thing that you do need to be aware of when you are shopping for a new television. Simply stating that the television is digital does not necessarily mean that it is high definition. Some digital televisions are prefect for watching DVD's but are not able to take high definition signals from the airwaves. You also have to make sure that your cable or satellite provider does have high definition channels.
